Tucson is the second largest city in Arizona and is home to The University of Arizona and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. The Tucson metropolitan area has a population of 1,050,000 and a cost of living below the urban average. The city is located 108 miles southeast of Phoenix and 60 miles north of the U.S./Mexico border. Interstate 10, which runs southeast to northwest through town, connects Tucson to Phoenix, and Interstate 19 runs south from Tucson towards Nogales and the U.S./Mexico border. Tucson is served by the Tucson International Airport and is also a major hub for the Union Pacific Railroad’s Sunset Route that links the Los Angeles ports to the south/southeast regions of the country. Tucson’s economy consists of the following key industries: aerospace, biotech, defense, mining, information technology and renewable energy.
